About the Author

Jessica Davis

Jessica Davis recently graduated with a Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (MA-TESL) from Northern Arizona University (NAU), located in Flagstaff, Arizona. She is currently an ESL Instructor in the Program in Intensive English (PIE) at NAU.

Upon graduating with a B.A. in Philosophy from the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota, Ms. Davis moved to China to teach English. She enjoyed teaching and living in Hunan province for the duration of her contract.

In her course of study at NAU, Ms. Davis had hands-on training in theoretical aspects related to language learning, pedagogy, assessment, and CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning). Her coursework combined with her teaching experiences in the Program in Intensive English (PIE) and English Composition provided her with valuable insights in teaching and developing materials for academic English instruction.

Ms. Davis' experience teaching an ESL Drama course in the Fall of 2008 was the inspiration for this website. After realizing that her two passions, drama and teaching ESL, could coexist, Ms. Davis began developing her knoweldge and experience of teaching ESL through drama. The product of a Curriculum Development course is now the section of this website entitled "Bringing it All Together". The experience and knowledge gained from a graduate course in Drama in ESL teaching at Southern New Hampshire University, taught by Dr. Gary Carkin, will soon be incorporated into this site. The information she has learned in this course calls for many additions to this website--look for them soon! One such addition is on the Process Drama page--see videos of a Process Drama lesson she and her classmates planned and implemented.

She plans on further developing this interest, and welcomes suggestions or comments. Visit the Guestbook to give your suggestions.

Other teaching experiences Ms. Davis has had include tutoring in the NAU English Department’s writing center, and teaching English to visiting Chinese scholars. Additionally, Ms. Davis has taught ESL with Literacy Volunteers of Maricopa County, volunteered with the Literacy Project in Colorado, and led an Alternative Spring Break trip as an undergraduate student.

If you have comments or would like to make suggestions regarding this website, they are graciously received. Please contact Ms. Davis via the form below.
